Great day in Grade 2! Our highlight of the day was our Bee Expert - Kristen Penhall. Read all the things we learned in "Our Learning". Our Learning; "today we had a bee expert come in. She taught us lots of stuff about bees."-Jillian "I learned that only female bees have stingers because the female bees are out making stuff."-Cameron "In the world there are billions of bees. There are different types of bees: bumble bees, mason bees, honey bees."-Ava "There are solitary bees and social bees. Honey bees are social."-Rocky "Solitary bees live by themselves. Social bees live in a group."-Ben "We played badminton in gym. When we were tossing the birdie against the wall I got to hit it ten times. "-Caden "In math we learned about rounding."-Hashim For Homework: Bring back your Poetry Party folders! Remember to practice and make props or dress up in costume!

Our Learning: - Today we did Lucky Clover art project. Jillian - Today in Music we did "Lucky Little Leprechaun"! Hashim - Today we had two sciences and I was very focused. Sam - Today in Science we sketched our insulation devices and we also asked ourselves questions and it was fun! Rocky - Today in Literacy we wrote on a four leaf clover, why we are important. Ava - Today in gym we did centers and one of the centers was that you had to "canoe" to the other side to get a rubber chicken and then bring it back. Brock - Today in gym we played centers and one of them was the skip-its and yoga. Caden FYI - Library tomorrow For Homework: Have a great evening! Make sure to read 10 mins out loud tonight! Our Learning: - Today in Science we tested our ice cubes and mine worked! Jillian - In gym today we learned a new game and we practiced our song. Caden - Today in math Mrs. Hewitt was talking about our new centers and should we keep our old groups or make new groups? Hashim - Today was a very active day. Sam - Today we did our insulation devices. Lucy - In Science we tested our insulation devices, mine was better before we did the changes. Elizabeth - Today in math we got to play Math Buzz. Ava - Today in choice time I did mindful coloring. Ethan For Homework: Talk to your parents about your insulating device. Did the changes you made work? Why or why not? Have a great evening! FYI - MATH! Mrs. Hewitt's math group is doing some estimation in the next couple of weeks. If you would like to help out, please send in a jar filled with something for us to estimate. (I.e. buttons, fishy crackers, beads, elastics, etc.) Be creative! We will send home the jars in a couple of weeks. Please put the answer taped to the top of the inside of the lid for us to guess after we have made predictions. Our Learning: *Today in gym we played Pip, Squeak and Wilbur, but we did it Leprechaun, Shamrock and Pot of Gold. I was the Pot of Gold. - Brock *Today we had a substitute teacher for Ms. Heagy and her name is Mrs. D and she's wonderful. Jillian *Today in math we had computers and did Math Buzz. Hashim *Today at the very end of the day was on computers and I was on the last level. Erica *Today we went to the Idea Lab and we were finishing our insulating devices. Caden *Today we went to the Idea Lab and added the stuff we needed to add on. I added sponge and I cut it out to the right size. Cameron *Today we went on Math Buzz. Our Learning: - Today we tested our insulation devices. Grace - In gym, we played Dr. Dodgeball and I got Ms. Heagy down a couple of times. Kai - Today we did our insulation devices and my ice cube stayed unmelted the whole time! River - Today it was a very fun day and tomorrow is snowshoeing and I'm very excited! Sam - Today we had math and Mrs. Hewitt's math group were guessing how much a family of polar bears would weigh! Hashim - Today in gym we played Dr. Dodgeball, and I got Mrs. Hewitt down a couple of times. Ben - Today in music, we got to try out the different ribbons because there was no red and yellow there was just blue and green. Rocky - Isaiah came back today from Costa Rica. Jasper - Today we did our insulation devices and mine barely melted. Lucy For Homework: Please blog back if your insulation device worked or not. Important - Water Dance School Concert We are excited to present our Spring Performance of Water Dance on March 21st and 22nd. Students with last names beginning with A to L will perform on Wednesday afternoon (1:00pm - no tickets required) and Wednesday night (6:30pm - tickets required - Doors open at 6pm) Students with last names beginning with M to Z will perform on Thursday morning(8:30am - no tickets required) and Thursday night.(6:30pm - tickets required - Doors open at 6pm) We ask that the students wear blue or green shirts without any letters, images, or logos and dark pants. If your child is not able to attend the evening performance, please contact your child's teacher and let them know. *Tickets are going home tonight with oldest and only! Library News: It is Library tomorrow - please bring back your books. ALSO, The POWerful book club will meet Tuesday at noon. Students should bring their Books turned into Movies pick to the library at the lunch first bell. We will talk about our books and pick our next read. Snowshoes - Changed to Friday! Please come prepared with snow pants (optional - if you don't mind wet pants), hat, mitts, jacket, BOOTS (are mandatory) 8:30 - 9:30am - Hewitt Snowshoes (Heagy will do Poety Party). 10:30 - 11:30am - Heagy Snowshoes (Hewitt will do Poety Party) *Boat Kits going home with Volunteers. Mrs.Bezugely gave us a session on how to use the snowshoes... we decided to go snowshoeing on Thursday afternoon. Please come prepared with snow pants, and snow gear. Happy Monday! We hope everyone had a delightful weekend! Today was a very special day- the Grade 2s welcomed author Jacquline Guest who is teaching us about storytelling! She will be back mid April to see the good copies of our book. FYI Tomorrow Mrs. Bezugely & Gray are teaching us how to use the snowshoes! The skeleton, and to use our 5 senses."-Trejuane "Today we had super circle with both classes and Mrs. Guest... she talked more about stories and passed around artifacts!"-Jillina 'Today in gym we did dancing. Finn and I were partners."-Noelle "In music we did ribbons and sang Sitting on the Dock of the Bay."-Hashim "Jacqueline Guest taught us about how to make a story. We had to do a story where if a character got into a problem, you can't magically have them saved. The character has to save themselves to make it more interesting."-Cameron For Homework: We learned tips and tricks for storytelling from Mrs. Jacqueline Guest today! This is called the "skeleton" of our story. Blog back one of the 5 W's from your story, and one of the 5 senses. For example: My story takes place in Nunavut, it is set in modern times. The time of year is the summer. My character feels icy cold snow, and his paws are tingling and hurting because he is so cold. Dear Parents,
AMAZING SPECTACULAR PHENOMENAL job GRADE 2!!! Poetry Party is in full swing & is a smashing success. We are so proud of all students! Everyone brought back their duotangs & every student performed! Poetry Party folders are coming home, students set personal goals. Please take a picture or photocopy your child's poem and help them practice this week. Importantly- bring back your folders on Monday so we can practice during Literacy. FYI Scholastic orders were due today - we will submit orders on Monday ... so last minute orders can be accepted. Our Learning "In gym we played tag games with Mrs. Konno's class.
